Kuvaus:
Tavoite 

This course serves as an introduction to qualitative and quantitative tourism research, the research process, scientific writing and the construction of a research text. After the completion of the course the student is expected to be able to identify and describe topics, methods and limits of qualitative and quantitative tourism research, present completed tourism studies (their theoretical and methodological frameworks, argumentation and research ethics), explain differences and similarities between various research orientations and approaches in the field of tourism research and outline his/her own tourism research orientation and relate it to the wider field of tourism research.

The course will be passed by completing two assignments in an approvable manner (see separate instructions) and attending the compulsory lectures. The course will be assessed by a numerical grade (1−5), in addition to which a verbal feedback will be given by e-mail / via Optima concerning the assignments. Both assignments will determine 50 % of the numerical course grade.

Methodological traditions and trends of tourism research, epistemologies and ontologies, practices of qualitative and quantitative tourism research, research ethics, research process, scientific writing.

Vaadittavat suoritukset 

Participation to the lectures, successful completion of the written reports of research and evaluation exercises. The course will be passed by completing two assignments in an approvable manner (see separate instructions) and attending the compulsory lectures.
